At a glance
Compare head clearance, tool access and mounting geometry before specifying a screw for factory assembly.
Start with space and tool access
Compare the head diameter and height with the available envelope and tool access. A socket cap head, button head and low head solve different clearance problems. Check the actual product drawing instead of treating all screws with the same thread as interchangeable.
Match the head to the seating surface
A countersunk head needs a matching countersink; a flat-bearing head needs its specified seating surface. Confirm the head angle, hole preparation and length convention in the drawing. A flush appearance alone does not establish that the joint is correctly specified.
Review loadability before substitution
Some low-head and countersunk designs have reduced loadability because of head geometry. Do not transfer torque or load assumptions from a conventional cap screw without checking the applicable product standard. ISO 10642 explicitly covers countersunk socket screws with reduced loadability.
